Is Your Acne Getting Worse Before It Gets Better? This Might Be Why!

Is Your Acne Getting Worse Before It Gets Better? This Might Be Why!

You might feel embarrassed when you endure an acne flare up, but the fact of the matter is that acne is far more common than you may realize.

And usually, with a little deeper digging, the cause can become pretty obvious.

Once you know why you’re struggling with pimples, you can start figuring out ways to target them so you can rock that clear, glowing complexion that you deserve! Using natural skincare for example, and cleaning up your diet are excellent starts.

But, even if you’ve made these changes already, you may not even realize the many ways you could be making your acne worse before it can get better…

You’re not washing your pillow cases often enough

When was the last time you washed your pillow case?

This is one of those things we tend to not even think about, until we put two and two together and realize our breakouts are happening on the side we sleep on every night.

Natural oils and skin cells accumulate on your pillow case and over time, these may clog up your pores, resulting in acne breakouts.

Be sure to wash your pillowcases at least once a week, with an all natural laundry detergent that won’t aggravate your skin. Throw in a splash of vinegar for its antibacterial benefits.

You’re not using headphones

If you’re confused, don’t worry, it will all make sense in a minute!

If you’re on your phone constantly and have it pressed up against your face, then those pimples on that side may be related to dirt from your cell phone, just think of all the potentially dirty surfaces you casually plop your phone down on!

In fact, your cellphone may be dirtier than a toilet handle, gross!

If you’re making regular calls, be sure to put those earphones in, and we highly recommend giving it a good clean too!

You’re not using the right products

If you’re using conventional products, filled with synthetics then they have to go, immediately!

Drying out your pimples is the last thing you want, in fact, when you use a product that strips the natural oils from your skin, you actually put your skin at risk for more breakouts, as it desperately tries to compensate for the lack of oil, often resulting in too much sebum and consequently, an acne breakout.

Stick to all natural products in the shower, even your conventional shampoo can cause irritation!

For your face, we highly recommend an oil like our 5 star One and Done Sea Buckthorn Oil and our BARE FACE facial treatment cleanser.

You’re not managing your stress

Did you know that if you’re constantly stressed, then those breakouts may be a result of that?

Stress causes the body to release cortisol, the stress hormone, which can wreak all sorts of havoc from breaking down collagen to increasing sebum, which then contributes to acne breakouts.

Managing stress may be easier said than done, but there are a few ways you can help your body better manage any stress you are facing.

Deep breathing for just 20 minutes a day helps to reduce cortisol levels and a yoga flow is always a good idea!

Also, be sure to stick to whole, nutrient-rich foods that will help to reduce inflammation and therefore, help your body better handle stress.

We all deal with some kind of stress in our lives, it’s inevitable, but your skin (and your mental health) deserve so much more!
